The signs along the major roadways will provide motorists with estimated travel time to specific locations
On Monday, transportation officials activated real-time traffic signs in the Taunton area that they plan to expand across the state by the end of the year.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) officials say they plan to have 137 signs in place, covering more than 700 miles of highway, under the system called Go-Time.
The signs will tell drivers how long it will take to get to a specific location, according to MassDOT spokeswoman Jacquelyn Goddard.
Temporary Go-Time signs are currently in place on portions of Interstate 90, Interstate 93, and Route 140 to Route 6. Similar signs have also been on Cape Cod since April 2014. The signs installed on Monday were on Route 140 in Taunton.
