Traffic signal improvements to benefit 70 Pennsylvania municipalities

July 13, 2018

The $31 million in traffic signal upgrades will be funded through the state's Green Light-Go program

Gov. Tom Wolf announced yesterday that 70 municipalities in the state of Pennsylvania will receive more than $31 million to support traffic signal upgrades, increasing safety and mobility across the state's communities.

"This is the fourth round of funding disbursed to support increased safety and mobility across more Pennsylvania towns," Gov. Wolf said, in a release. "The Green Light-Go program addresses mechanisms that if not functioning properly can aggravate congestion and impede traffic flow."

Funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) Green Light-Go program, grants are provided as reimbursement to municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. Grant funding through the Green Light-Go Program may be utilized for a range of operational improvements including, but not limited to: light-emitting diode (LED) technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies.
