Two workers were rescued after they became trapped in a trench Tuesday morning at a Centennial construction site on the Cherry Creek Trail near South Parker Road and East Broncos Parkway in Colorado.
One of the workers had minor injuries. Three members of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s technical rescue team entered the trench to assist the person who was eventually put on a stretcher and hoisted out of the trench. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The other worker was able to make it out of the trench with the assistance of rescue crews.
South Metro Fire officials said on X the workers were stuck in a trench that is 10-feet wide, 5-feet deep and 75-feet long. Crews worked to shore the sides of the trench before rescuing both people. Castle Rock Fire responded to provide additional assistance.
It's not clear how the workers became trapped, but the trench did not collapse, according to South Metro Fire.
