How can safety not only exist, but flourish, within a work zone area? Communities face many complicated challenges to remain productive, nimble, and fiscally prudent — while simultaneously being committed to providing safe work zones for all workers and road users. But we must ask how we have grown or faltered, as a community, when reviewing our history of work zone traffic control, operations, and safety procedures. And how have experiences of the past contributed to the overarching progress and success of today’s work zone safety? These are a few of the many questions we need to ask ourselves. With demanding, varied, and ever-changing work zone projects taking place concurrently throughout our communities, it’s critical to understand how a focused safety framework is needed at every phase.
Learning Objectives:
We will be discussing the history of work zone safety, “From Then to Now” and identifying how we, as a community, can take an even more proactive approach to safety in work zone areas. By meeting dedicated safety objectives today, we can positively impact our road safety practices in the future.
