Panama Beach City residents should get ready for some construction coming to Front Beach Road. On Thursday, the Panama City Beach Council began to move forward with three upcoming segments of the Front Beach Road Community Redevelopment Area Plan (CRA).
The plan has been in the works for more than two decades, with the goal of revamping Front Beach Road and connecting roadways.
"(This helps) us to move ahead in the redevelopment plans on Front Beach Road," Councilmember Mary Coburn said. "We've been going through this process up and down Front Beach Road as we get ready to start doing the construction (and) the design planning for each phase."
The three portions of the CRA that are next are:
- Reconstruction of Front Beach Road east of Lullwater Drive to Hills Road will cost over $14 million. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2023.
- Reconstruction of Front Beach Road east of Hills Road to Lantana Street will cost over $17 million. Construction is expected to begin near the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024.
- Reconstruction of Front Beach Road from Hutchinson Boulevard to Richard Jackson Boulevard will cost over $12 million. Construction is expected to begin near the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024.
Council members approved an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to transfer almost one and a half miles of Front Beach Road from the state highway system to the city street system.
"I think the Corradino Group that the city hired to manage that project is working out very well," Coburn said. "We've started seeing all this significant progress moving forward. They're really focused on their timelines and they're committed to getting the project done on time and as affordable as possible."
