Major roadwork is coming to Michigan as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) prepares to begin the Michigan Highway 14/Interstate 96 Rebuilding Project.
The multi-year project comes with a price tag of $139 million and includes rebuilding the eastbound side of M-14/Interstate 96 from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road. The project will start in late February with completion expected late in 2025.
The westbound lanes will be rebuilt next year.
Traffic control for the project has been “carefully considered for the approximately 125,000 drivers who use M-14/I-96 daily near the I-275 interchange,” MDOT officials said in a press release.
During the 2025 work, one lane will remain open on eastbound M-14 from before Beck Road to Levan Road, with all eastbound entrance and exit ramps closed from Beck to Newburgh Roads.
The Interstate 275 ramps to eastbound Interstate 96 will be closed for approximately two months while the other ramps will be closed through the end of 2025.
Westbound traffic will have two lanes open and all westbound exit ramps will remain open.
During the 2026 work, two lanes will open in each direction, once again with numerous ramp closures.
