Bridge Demolition Closes Ramp in Michigan

Sept. 18, 2024
There will be closures in place today and tomorrow

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is rebuilding the section of freeway between Interstates 96 and 496. Work began last spring and will continue into early December. It will pick up again in 2025.

The exit ramp at the U.S. Route 127/Interstate 496 interchange will be closed from today at 10 a.m. through tomorrow until 4 p.m. for bridge demolition. It is part of the $205 million rebuild of U.S. Route 127.

The current phase of the project has all traffic shifted to the southbound lane while the northbound lanes are being rebuilt. That will be reversed next year.

Once that section is done, MDOT will turn its attention further north to the stretch between Interstate 496 and Interstate 69.

The project is set to rebuild 3.7 miles of U.S. Highway 127 and Interstate 496, while improving and replacing bridges along each corridor. Work will take place through both Clinton and Ingham counties via several phases of work from 2022 through 2028.
