The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 apportionments of contract authority provided to the states under SAFETEA-LU. However, states must still await the enactment of a transportation appropriations bill by Congress to access the obligation authority needed to use the funding.

The continuing resolution passed by Congress before it recessed for the elections continued funding for federal agencies until Nov. 17. It also provided a limited amount of obligation authority, some $3.48 billion to the states, which is equivalent to 48 days of the amount distributed by the FHWA in FY 2006.

The apportionments issued by the FHWA distributes some $34.13 billion in highway contract authority. Another $2.96 billion in funding for high-priority projects designated in the law brings the contract authority total for FY 2007 to $37.1 billion, an increase of some $2.94 billion over FY 2006.

The apportionment tables are available at the FHWA website at www.fhwa.dot.gov.
