Telvent GIT S.A., the global real-time IT company, recently announced the successful launch of the 511 traveler-information system for the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).
This service, which commenced operation in February 2007, represents a significant transportation milestone for the San Diego region. 511 puts a wealth of free, travel-related information at commuters' fingertips--24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Accessed via phone or Internet (www.511sd.com), users of this one-stop resource can obtain up-to-the-minute freeway driving times, transit route and rideshare information, roadside assistance, public transportation fare information and much more.
In the first two days of operation, 511 received more than 64,000 website visits and 10,000 telephone calls.
"We are very pleased to help SANDAG better serve its constituents by effectively developing and operating their traveler information system," said Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent's chairman and chief executive officer. "The system provides users with key information to make travel decisions. This successful deployment demonstrates that our Telvent Farradyne acquisition is continuing to accelerate our strategic plan of substantially expanding our world-wide transportation business."
The state-of-the-art 511 service stems from a collaborative partnership among SANDAG, Caltrans, the Metropolitan Transit Service, the North County Transit District, California Highway Patrol and the San Diego Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies.
