U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx kicked off his Grow America tour in Tallahassee, Fla., the morning of Feb. 17.
The five-state bus ride is aimed at making the public more aware of the need to modernize by restoring and renovating road, bridges and transit systems. It also will be a way for Foxx to promote President Obama’s six-year, $478 billion transportation bill. Stops also will be made in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
“The importance of modernized infrastructure for our city cannot be understated,” said Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum. “It sharpens our economic competitiveness, spurs development and improves the quality of life for our citizens.”
Last week, Foxx put his face in front of the House of Representatives in an attempt to encourage the Republican-controlled chamber to pass a multiyear highway bill.
“We must do something,” he said on Feb. 11. “At a time when we should be building more, we’re building less.
“Our country is too great to allow our infrastructure to fall apart.”
